Paṭhamasūriyasutta The Simile of the Sun (1st)

ā€œSÅ«riyassa, bhikkhave, udayato etaṁ pubbaį¹…gamaṁ etaṁ pubbanimittaṁ, yadidaṁ—aruṇuggaṁ. ā€œMendicants, the dawn is the forerunner and precursor of the sunrise.

Evameva kho, bhikkhave, bhikkhuno catunnaṁ ariyasaccānaṁ yathābhÅ«taṁ abhisamayāya etaṁ pubbaį¹…gamaṁ etaṁ pubbanimittaṁ, yadidaṁ—sammādiį¹­į¹­hi. In the same way, right view is the forerunner and precursor of truly comprehending the four noble truths.

Tassetaṁ, bhikkhave, bhikkhuno pāṭikaį¹…khaṁ: A mendicant with right view can expect to truly understand:

ā€˜idaṁ dukkhan’ti yathābhÅ«taṁ pajānissati …pe… ā€˜ayaṁ dukkhanirodhagāminÄ« paį¹­ipadā’ti yathābhÅ«taṁ pajānissati. ā€˜This is suffering’ … ā€˜This is the origin of suffering’ … ā€˜This is the cessation of suffering’ … ā€˜This is the practice that leads to the cessation of suffering’.

Tasmātiha, bhikkhave, ā€˜idaṁ dukkhan’ti yogo karaṇīyo …pe… ā€˜ayaṁ dukkhanirodhagāminÄ« paį¹­ipadā’ti yogo karaṇīyoā€ti. That’s why you should practice meditation ā€¦ā€
