SagÄthakasutta With Verses
āCatÅ«hi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannÄgato ariyasÄvako sotÄpanno hoti avinipÄtadhammo niyato sambodhiparÄyaį¹o. āMendicants, a noble disciple who has four things is a stream-enterer, not liable to be reborn in the underworld, bound for awakening.

Idha, bhikkhave, ariyasÄvako buddhe aveccappasÄdena samannÄgato hotiāItās when a noble disciple has experiential confidence in the Buddha ā¦
itipi so bhagavÄ ā¦peā¦ satthÄ devamanussÄnaį¹ buddho bhagavÄti.

gha ā¦
ariyakantehi sÄ«lehi samannÄgato hoti akhaį¹įøehi ā¦peā¦ samÄdhisaį¹vattanikehi. And they have the ethical conduct loved by the noble ones ā¦ leading to immersion.
Imehi kho, bhikkhave, catÅ«hi dhammehi samannÄgato ariyasÄvako sotÄpanno hoti avinipÄtadhammo niyato sambodhiparÄyaį¹oāti. A noble disciple who has these four things is a stream-enterer, not liable to be reborn in the underworld, bound for awakening.ā
Idamavoca bhagavÄ. That is what the Buddha said.
Idaį¹ vatvÄna sugato athÄparaį¹ etadavoca satthÄ: Then the Holy One, the Teacher, went on to say:
āYassa saddhÄ tathÄgate, āWhoever has faith in the Realized One,
acalÄ suppatiį¹į¹hitÄ; unwavering and well grounded;
SÄ«laƱca yassa kalyÄį¹aį¹, whose ethical conduct is good,
ariyakantaį¹ pasaį¹sitaį¹. praised and loved by the noble ones;
Saį¹
ghe pasÄdo yassatthi, who has confidence in the Saį¹
gha,
ujubhÅ«taƱca dassanaį¹; and correct view:
Adaliddoti taį¹ Ähu, theyāre said to be prosperous,
amoghaį¹ tassa jÄ«vitaį¹. their life is not in vain.
TasmÄ saddhaƱca sÄ«laƱca, So let the wise devote themselves
pasÄdaį¹ dhammadassanaį¹; to faith, ethical behaviour,
AnuyuƱjetha medhÄvÄ«, confidence, and insight into the teaching,
saraį¹ buddhÄnasÄsananāti. remembering the instructions of the Buddhas.ā
