Nandiyasutta With Nandiya

Kapilavatthunidānaṁ. At Kapilavatthu.

Ekamantaṁ nisinnaṁ kho nandiyaṁ sakkaṁ bhagavā etadavoca: Seated to one side, the Buddha said to Nandiya the Sakyan:

ā€œcatÅ«hi kho, nandiya, dhammehi samannāgato ariyasāvako sotāpanno hoti avinipātadhammo niyato sambodhiparāyaṇo. ā€œNandiya, a noble disciple who has four things is a stream-enterer, not liable to be reborn in the underworld, bound for awakening.

Katamehi catūhi? What four?

Idha, nandiya, ariyasāvako buddhe aveccappasādena samannāgato hoti—It’s when a noble disciple has experiential confidence in the Buddha …

itipi so bhagavā …pe… satthā devamanussānaṁ buddho bhagavāti.

Dhamme …pe… the teaching …

saį¹…ghe …pe… the Saį¹…gha …

ariyakantehi sÄ«lehi samannāgato hoti akhaį¹‡įøehi …pe… samādhisaṁvattanikehi. And they have the ethical conduct loved by the noble ones … leading to immersion.

Imehi kho, nandiya, catÅ«hi dhammehi samannāgato ariyasāvako sotāpanno hoti avinipātadhammo niyato sambodhiparāyaṇoā€ti. A noble disciple who has these four things is a stream-enterer, not liable to be reborn in the underworld, bound for awakening.ā€

Sattamaṁ.
