Tatiyaabhisandasutta Overflowing Merit (3rd)
āCattÄrome, bhikkhave, puƱƱÄbhisandÄ, kusalÄbhisandÄ, sukhassÄhÄrÄ. āMendicants, there are these four kinds of overflowing merit, overflowing goodness that nurture happiness.
Katame cattÄro? What four?
Idha, bhikkhave, ariyasÄvako buddhe aveccappasÄdena samannÄgato hotiāItās when a noble disciple has experiential confidence in the Buddha ā¦
itipi so bhagavÄ ā¦peā¦ satthÄ devamanussÄnaį¹ buddho bhagavÄti.
Ayaį¹ paį¹hamo puƱƱÄbhisando, kusalÄbhisando, sukhassÄhÄro.

Puna caparaį¹, bhikkhave, ariyasÄvako paƱƱavÄ hoti udayatthagÄminiyÄ paƱƱÄya samannÄgato ariyÄya nibbedhikÄya sammÄ dukkhakkhayagÄminiyÄ. Furthermore, a noble disciple is wise. They have the wisdom of arising and passing away which is noble, penetrative, and leads to the complete ending of suffering.
Ayaį¹ catuttho puƱƱÄbhisando kusalÄbhisando sukhassÄhÄro. This is the fourth kind of overflowing merit, overflowing goodness that nurtures happiness.
Ime kho, bhikkhave, cattÄro puƱƱÄbhisandÄ kusalÄbhisandÄ sukhassÄhÄrÄ. These are the four kinds of overflowing merit, overflowing goodness that nurture happiness.
Imehi kho, bhikkhave, catÅ«hi puƱƱÄbhisandehi kusalÄbhisandehi samannÄgatassa ariyasÄvakassa na sukaraį¹ puƱƱassa pamÄį¹aį¹ gaį¹etuį¹: When a noble disciple has these four kinds of overflowing merit and goodness, itās not easy to measure how much merit they have by saying that
āettako puƱƱÄbhisando, kusalÄbhisando, sukhassÄhÄroāti. this is the extent of their overflowing merit, overflowing goodness that nurtures happiness.
Atha kho asaį¹
khyeyyo appameyyo mahÄpuƱƱakkhandhotveva saį¹
khyaį¹ gacchatÄ«āti. Itās simply reckoned as an incalculable, immeasurable, great mass of merit.ā
Idamavoca bhagavÄ ā¦peā¦ That is what the Buddha said.
satthÄ: Then the Holy One, the Teacher, went on to say:
āYo puƱƱakÄmo kusale patiį¹į¹hito, āOne who desires merit, grounded in the skillful,
BhÄveti maggaį¹ amatassa pattiyÄ; develops the path to realize freedom from death.
So dhammasÄrÄdhigamo khaye rato, Once theyāve reached the heart of the teaching, delighting in ending,
Na vedhati maccurÄjÄgamanasmināti. they donāt tremble at the approach of the King of Death.ā
