Vassasutta Rain
āSeyyathÄpi, bhikkhave, uparipabbate thullaphusitake deve vassante taį¹ udakaį¹ yathÄninnaį¹ pavattamÄnaį¹ pabbatakandarapadarasÄkhÄ paripÅ«reti, pabbatakandarapadarasÄkhÄ paripÅ«rÄ kusobbhe paripÅ«renti, kusobbhÄ paripÅ«rÄ mahÄsobbhe paripÅ«renti, mahÄsobbhÄ paripÅ«rÄ kunnadiyo paripÅ«renti, kunnadiyo paripÅ«rÄ mahÄnadiyo paripÅ«renti, mahÄnadiyo paripÅ«rÄ mahÄsamuddaį¹ paripÅ«renti; āMendicants, suppose the heavens rain heavily on a mountain top, and the water flows downhill to fill the hollows, crevices, and creeks. As they become full, they fill up the pools. The pools fill up the lakes, the lakes fill up the streams, and the streams fill up the rivers. And as the rivers become full, they fill up the ocean.
evameva kho, bhikkhave, ariyasÄvakassa yo ca buddhe aveccappasÄdo, yo ca dhamme aveccappasÄdo, yo ca saį¹
ghe aveccappasÄdo, yÄni ca ariyakantÄni sÄ«lÄniāIn the same way, a noble disciple has experiential confidence in the Buddha, the teaching, and the Saį¹
gha, and the ethics loved by the noble ones.
ime dhammÄ sandamÄnÄ pÄraį¹ gantvÄ ÄsavÄnaį¹ khayÄya saį¹vattantÄ«āti. These things flow onwards; and, after crossing to the far shore, they lead to the ending of defilements.ā
