Dutiyaphalasutta Seven Benefits

ā€œPaƱcimāni, bhikkhave, indriyāni. ā€œMendicants, there are these five faculties.

Katamāni paƱca? What five?

Saddhindriyaṁ …pe… paƱƱindriyaṁ—The faculties of faith, energy, mindfulness, immersion, and wisdom.

imāni kho, bhikkhave, paƱcindriyāni. These are the five faculties.

Imesaṁ kho, bhikkhave, paƱcannaṁ indriyānaṁ bhāvitattā bahulÄ«katattā satta phalā sattānisaṁsā pāṭikaį¹…khā. Because of developing and cultivating these five faculties, seven fruits and benefits can be expected.

Katame satta phalā sattānisaṁsā? What seven?

Diṭṭheva dhamme paṭikacca aññaṁ ārādheti, They attain enlightenment early on in this very life.

no ce diį¹­į¹­heva dhamme paį¹­ikacca aƱƱaṁ ārādheti, atha maraṇakāle aƱƱaṁ ārādheti. If not, they attain enlightenment at the time of death.

No ce diį¹­į¹­heva dhamme aƱƱaṁ ārādheti, no ce maraṇakāle aƱƱaṁ ārādheti, atha paƱcannaṁ orambhāgiyānaṁ saṁyojanānaṁ parikkhayā antarāparinibbāyÄ« hoti, If not, with the ending of the five lower fetters, they’re extinguished between one life and the next …

upahaccaparinibbāyÄ« hoti, they’re extinguished upon landing …

asaį¹…khāraparinibbāyÄ« hoti, they’re extinguished without extra effort …

sasaį¹…khāraparinibbāyÄ« hoti, they’re extinguished with extra effort …

uddhaṁsoto hoti akaniṭṭhagāmī. they head upstream, going to the Akaniṭṭha realm.

Imesaṁ kho, bhikkhave, paƱcannaṁ indriyānaṁ bhāvitattā bahulÄ«katattā ime satta phalā sattānisaṁsā pāṭikaį¹…khÄā€ti. Because of developing and cultivating these five faculties, these seven fruits and benefits can be expected.ā€
