Paṭhamavitthārasutta In Detail (1st)

ā€œPaƱcimāni, bhikkhave, indriyāni. ā€œMendicants, there are these five faculties.

Katamāni paƱca? What five?

Saddhindriyaṁ …pe… paƱƱindriyaṁ—The faculties of faith, energy, mindfulness, immersion, and wisdom.

imāni kho, bhikkhave, paƱcindriyāni. These are the five faculties.

Imesaṁ kho, bhikkhave, paƱcannaṁ indriyānaṁ samattā paripÅ«rattā arahaṁ hoti, tato mudutarehi antarāparinibbāyÄ« hoti, tato mudutarehi upahaccaparinibbāyÄ« hoti, tato mudutarehi asaį¹…khāraparinibbāyÄ« hoti, tato mudutarehi sasaį¹…khāraparinibbāyÄ« hoti, tato mudutarehi uddhaṁsoto hoti akaniį¹į¹hagāmÄ«, tato mudutarehi sakadāgāmÄ« hoti, tato mudutarehi sotāpanno hoti, tato mudutarehi dhammānusārÄ« hoti, tato mudutarehi saddhānusārÄ« hotÄ«ā€ti. Someone who has completed and fulfilled these five faculties is a perfected one. If they are weaker than that, they’re one who is extinguished between one life and the next … one who is extinguished upon landing … one who is extinguished without extra effort … one who is extinguished with extra effort … one who heads upstream, going to the Akaniį¹į¹ha realm … a once-returner … a stream-enterer … a follower of teachings … a follower by faith.ā€
