Chandasutta Desire
āCattÄrome, bhikkhave, satipaį¹į¹hÄnÄ. āMendicants, there are these four kinds of mindfulness meditation.
Katame cattÄro? What four?
Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu kÄye kÄyÄnupassÄ« viharati ÄtÄpÄ« sampajÄno satimÄ, vineyya loke abhijjhÄdomanassaį¹. Itās when a mendicant meditates by observing an aspect of the bodyākeen, aware, and mindful, rid of covetousness and displeasure for the world.
Tassa kÄye kÄyÄnupassino viharato yo kÄyasmiį¹ chando so pahÄ«yati. As they do so they give up desire for the body.
Chandassa pahÄnÄ amataį¹ sacchikataį¹ hoti. When desire is given up they realize freedom from death.
VedanÄsu vedanÄnupassÄ« viharati ÄtÄpÄ« sampajÄno satimÄ, vineyya loke abhijjhÄdomanassaį¹. They meditate observing an aspect of feelingsākeen, aware, and mindful, rid of covetousness and displeasure for the world.
Tassa vedanÄsu vedanÄnupassino viharato yo vedanÄsu chando so pahÄ«yati. As they do so they give up desire for feelings.
Chandassa pahÄnÄ amataį¹ sacchikataį¹ hoti. When desire is given up they realize freedom from death.
Citte cittÄnupassÄ« viharati ÄtÄpÄ« sampajÄno satimÄ, vineyya loke abhijjhÄdomanassaį¹. They meditate observing an aspect of the mindākeen, aware, and mindful, rid of covetousness and displeasure for the world.
Tassa citte cittÄnupassino viharato yo cittamhi chando so pahÄ«yati. As they do so they give up desire for the mind.
