AnÄ«varaṇasutta Without Obstacles

Yasmiṁ, bhikkhave, samaye ariyasāvako aį¹­į¹­hiṁ katvā manasi katvā sabbaṁ cetaso samannāharitvā ohitasoto dhammaṁ suṇāti, imassa paƱca nÄ«varaṇā tasmiṁ samaye na honti. Satta bojjhaį¹…gā tasmiṁ samaye bhāvanāpāripÅ«riṁ gacchanti. ā€œMendicants, sometimes a noble disciple pays attention, applies the mind, concentrates wholeheartedly, and actively listens to the teaching. At such a time the five hindrances are absent, and the seven awakening factors are fully developed.

Katame paƱca nÄ«varaṇā tasmiṁ samaye na honti? What are the five hindrances that are absent?

KāmacchandanÄ«varaṇaṁ tasmiṁ samaye na hoti, byāpādanÄ«varaṇaṁ tasmiṁ samaye na hoti, thinamiddhanÄ«varaṇaṁ tasmiṁ samaye na hoti, uddhaccakukkuccanÄ«varaṇaṁ tasmiṁ samaye na hoti, vicikicchānÄ«varaṇaṁ tasmiṁ samaye na hoti. Sensual desire, ill will, dullness and drowsiness, restlessness and remorse, and doubt.

Imassa paƱca nÄ«varaṇā tasmiṁ samaye na honti. These are the five hindrances that are absent.

Katame satta bojjhaį¹…gā tasmiṁ samaye bhāvanāpāripÅ«riṁ gacchanti? And what are the seven awakening factors that are fully developed?

Satisambojjhaį¹…go tasmiṁ samaye bhāvanāpāripÅ«riṁ gacchati …pe… upekkhāsambojjhaį¹…go tasmiṁ samaye bhāvanāpāripÅ«riṁ gacchati. The awakening factors of mindfulness, investigation of principles, energy, rapture, tranquility, immersion, and equanimity.

Ime satta bojjhaį¹…gā tasmiṁ samaye bhāvanāpāripÅ«riṁ gacchanti. These are the seven awakening factors that are fully developed.
