Oghasutta Floods

Sāvatthinidānaṁ. At Sāvatthī.

ā€œCattārome, bhikkhave, oghā. ā€œMendicants, there are these four floods.

Katame cattāro? What four?

Kāmogho, bhavogho, diį¹­į¹­hogho, avijjogho—The floods of sensuality, desire to be reborn, views, and ignorance.

ime kho, bhikkhave, cattāro oghā. These are the four floods.

Imesaṁ kho, bhikkhave, catunnaṁ oghānaṁ abhiƱƱāya pariƱƱāya parikkhayāya pahānāya …pe… ayaṁ ariyo aį¹­į¹­haį¹…giko maggo bhāvetabboā€ti. The noble eightfold path should be developed for the direct knowledge, complete understanding, finishing, and giving up of these four floods.ā€
