āāÄkÄsÄnaƱcÄyatanaį¹, ÄkÄsÄnaƱcÄyatananāti vuccati. āThey speak of this thing called the ādimension of infinite spaceā.
Katamaį¹ nu kho ÄkÄsÄnaƱcÄyatananti? What is the dimension of infinite space?
Tassa mayhaį¹, Ävuso, etadahosi: It occurred to me:
āidha bhikkhu sabbaso rÅ«pasaƱƱÄnaį¹ samatikkamÄ paį¹ighasaƱƱÄnaį¹ atthaį¹
gamÄ nÄnattasaƱƱÄnaį¹ amanasikÄrÄ ananto ÄkÄsoti ÄkÄsÄnaƱcÄyatanaį¹ upasampajja viharati. āItās when a mendicantāgoing totally beyond perceptions of form, with the ending of perceptions of impingement, not focusing on perceptions of diversityāaware that āspace is infiniteā, enters and remains in the dimension of infinite space.
Idaį¹ vuccati ÄkÄsÄnaƱcÄyatananāti. This is called the dimension of infinite space.ā
So khvÄhaį¹, Ävuso, sabbaso rÅ«pasaƱƱÄnaį¹ samatikkamÄ paį¹ighasaƱƱÄnaį¹ atthaį¹
gamÄ nÄnattasaƱƱÄnaį¹ amanasikÄrÄ ananto ÄkÄsoti ÄkÄsÄnaƱcÄyatanaį¹ upasampajja viharÄmi. And so ā¦ I was entering and remaining in the dimension of infinite space.
Tassa mayhaį¹, Ävuso, iminÄ vihÄrena viharato rÅ«pasahagatÄ saƱƱÄmanasikÄrÄ samudÄcaranti. While I was in that meditation, perception and focus accompanied by forms beset me.
Atha kho maį¹, Ävuso, bhagavÄ iddhiyÄ upasaį¹
kamitvÄ etadavoca: Then the Buddha came up to me with his psychic power and said,
āmoggallÄna, moggallÄna. āMoggallÄna, MoggallÄna!
MÄ, brÄhmaį¹a, ÄkÄsÄnaƱcÄyatanaį¹ pamÄdo, ÄkÄsÄnaƱcÄyatane cittaį¹ saį¹į¹hapehi, ÄkÄsÄnaƱcÄyatane cittaį¹ ekodiį¹ karohi, ÄkÄsÄnaƱcÄyatane cittaį¹ samÄdahÄāti. Donāt neglect the dimension of infinite space, brahmin! Settle your mind in the dimension of infinite space; unify your mind and immerse it in the dimension of infinite space.ā
