JÄ«vakambavanasamādhisutta On Immersion at JÄ«vaka’s Mango Grove

Ekaṁ samayaṁ bhagavā rājagahe viharati jÄ«vakambavane. At one time the Buddha was staying near Rājagaha in JÄ«vaka’s Mango Grove.

Tatra kho bhagavā bhikkhū āmantesi: There the Buddha addressed the mendicants:

ā€œbhikkhavoā€ti …pe…

ā€œsamādhiṁ, bhikkhave, bhāvetha. ā€œMendicants, develop immersion.

Samāhitassa, bhikkhave, bhikkhuno yathābhūtaṁ okkhāyati. For a mendicant with immersion, things become truly clear.

Kiñca yathābhūtaṁ okkhāyati? And what becomes truly clear?

Cakkhuṁ aniccanti yathābhÅ«taṁ okkhāyati, rÅ«pā aniccāti yathābhÅ«taṁ okkhāyati, cakkhuviññāṇaṁ aniccanti yathābhÅ«taṁ okkhāyati, cakkhusamphasso aniccoti yathābhÅ«taṁ okkhāyati, yampidaṁ cakkhusamphassapaccayā uppajjati vedayitaṁ sukhaṁ vā dukkhaṁ vā adukkhamasukhaṁ vā tampi aniccanti yathābhÅ«taṁ okkhāyati …pe… It becomes truly clear that the eye, sights, eye consciousness, and eye contact are impermanent. And it also becomes truly clear that the painful, pleasant, or neutral feeling that arises conditioned by eye contact is impermanent.

jivhā aniccāti yathābhÅ«taṁ okkhāyati …pe… It becomes truly clear that the ear … nose … tongue … body …

mano aniccoti yathābhÅ«taṁ okkhāyati, dhammā aniccāti yathābhÅ«taṁ okkhāyati …pe… mind, ideas, mind consciousness, and mind contact are impermanent.

yampidaṁ manosamphassapaccayā uppajjati vedayitaṁ sukhaṁ vā dukkhaṁ vā adukkhamasukhaṁ vā tampi aniccanti yathābhūtaṁ okkhāyati. And it also becomes truly clear that the painful, pleasant, or neutral feeling that arises conditioned by mind contact is impermanent.

Samādhiṁ, bhikkhave, bhāvetha. Mendicants, develop immersion.

Samāhitassa, bhikkhave, bhikkhuno yathābhÅ«taṁ okkhāyatÄ«ā€ti. For a mendicant with immersion, things become truly clear.ā€
