PhaggunapaƱhÄsutta Phaggunaās Question
Atha kho ÄyasmÄ phagguno ā¦peā¦ ekamantaį¹ nisinno kho ÄyasmÄ phagguno bhagavantaį¹ etadavoca: And then Venerable Phagguna went up to the Buddha ā¦ and said to him:
āAtthi nu kho, bhante, taį¹ cakkhu, yena cakkhunÄ atÄ«te buddhe parinibbute chinnapapaƱce chinnavaį¹ume pariyÄdinnavaį¹į¹e sabbadukkhavÄ«tivaį¹į¹e paƱƱÄpayamÄno paƱƱÄpeyya ā¦peā¦ āSir, suppose someone were to describe the Buddhas of the past who have become fully quenched, cut off proliferation, cut off the track, finished off the cycle, and transcended all suffering. Does the eye exist by which they could be described?
atthi nu kho, bhante, sÄ jivhÄ, yÄya jivhÄya atÄ«te buddhe parinibbute chinnapapaƱce chinnavaį¹ume pariyÄdinnavaį¹į¹e sabbadukkhavÄ«tivaį¹į¹e paƱƱÄpayamÄno paƱƱÄpeyya ā¦peā¦ Does the ear ā¦ nose ā¦ tongue ā¦ body exist ā¦?
atthi nu kho so, bhante, mano, yena manena atÄ«te buddhe parinibbute chinnapapaƱce chinnavaį¹ume pariyÄdinnavaį¹į¹e sabbadukkhavÄ«tivaį¹į¹e paƱƱÄpayamÄno paƱƱÄpeyyÄāti? Does the mind exist by which they could be described?ā
