Ekaį¹ samayaį¹ ÄyasmÄ ca sÄriputto ÄyasmÄ ca mahÄkoį¹į¹hiko bÄrÄį¹asiyaį¹ viharanti isipatane migadÄye ā¦pe⦠At one time Venerable SÄriputta and Venerable MahÄkoį¹į¹hita were staying near Varanasi, in the deer park at Isipatana. ā¦
ekamantaį¹ nisinno kho ÄyasmÄ mahÄkoį¹į¹hiko Äyasmantaį¹ sÄriputtaį¹ etadavoca: MahÄkoį¹į¹hita said to SÄriputta:
āāvijjÄ, vijjÄāti, Ävuso sÄriputta, vuccati. āReverend SÄriputta, they speak of this thing called āknowledgeā.

kittÄvatÄ ca vijjÄgato hotÄ«āti? And how is a knowledgeable person defined?ā
āIdhÄvuso, sutavÄ ariyasÄvako samudayadhammaį¹ rÅ«paį¹ āsamudayadhammaį¹ rÅ«panāti yathÄbhÅ«taį¹ pajÄnÄti; vayadhammaį¹ rÅ«paį¹ ā¦pe⦠samudayavayadhammaį¹ rÅ«paį¹ āsamudayavayadhammaį¹ rÅ«panāti yathÄbhÅ«taį¹ pajÄnÄti; āReverend, itās when a learned noble disciple truly understands form, which is liable to originate ⦠liable to vanish ⦠liable to originate and vanish, as form which is liable to originate and vanish.
