Dutiyachandappahānasutta Giving Up Desire (2nd)

Sāvatthinidānaṁ. At Sāvatthī.

ā€œRÅ«pe, bhikkhave, yo chando yo rāgo yā nandÄ« yā taṇhā ye upayupādānā cetaso adhiį¹­į¹­hānābhinivesānusayā, te pajahatha. ā€œMendicants, you should give up any desire, greed, relishing, and craving for form; and any attraction, grasping, mental fixation, insistence, and underlying tendencies.

Evaṁ taṁ rÅ«paṁ pahÄ«naṁ bhavissati ucchinnamÅ«laṁ …pe… Thus that form will be given up, cut off at the root, made like a palm stump, obliterated, and unable to arise in the future.

Viññāṇe yo chando yo rāgo yā nandÄ« yā taṇhā ye upayupādānā cetaso adhiį¹­į¹­hānābhinivesānusayā, te pajahatha. consciousness; and any attraction, grasping, mental fixation, insistence, and underlying tendencies.

Evaṁ taṁ viññāṇaṁ pahÄ«naṁ bhavissati ucchinnamÅ«laṁ tālāvatthukataṁ anabhāvaį¹…kataṁ āyatiṁ anuppādadhammanā€ti. Thus that consciousness will be given up, cut off at the root, made like a palm stump, obliterated, and unable to arise in the future.ā€

Tassuddānaṁ

Anto dukkhaƱca sakkāyo,

pariƱƱeyyā samaṇā duve;

Sotāpanno arahā ca,

duve ca chandappahānāti.
