Atha kho ÄyasmÄ surÄdho bhagavantaį¹ etadavoca: Then Venerable SurÄdha said to the Buddha:
ākathaį¹ nu kho, bhante, jÄnato kathaį¹ passato imasmiƱca saviƱƱÄį¹ake kÄye bahiddhÄ ca sabbanimittesu ahaį¹
kÄramamaį¹
kÄramÄnÄpagataį¹ mÄnasaį¹ hoti, vidhÄ samatikkantaį¹ santaį¹ suvimuttanāti? āSir, how does one know and see so that the mind is rid of I-making, mine-making, and conceit for this conscious body and all external stimuli; and going beyond discrimination, itās peaceful and well freed?ā
āYaį¹ kiƱci, surÄdha, rÅ«paį¹ atÄ«tÄnÄgatapaccuppannaį¹ ā¦peā¦ yaį¹ dÅ«re santike vÄ, sabbaį¹ rÅ«paį¹: ānetaį¹ mama, nesohamasmi, na meso attÄāti evametaį¹ yathÄbhÅ«taį¹ sammappaƱƱÄya disvÄ anupÄdÄvimutto hoti. āSurÄdha, one is freed by not grasping having truly seen any kind of form at allāpast, future, or present; internal or external; solid or subtle; inferior or superior; far or near: all formāwith right understanding: āThis is not mine, I am not this, this is not my self.ā
