Khandhasutta The Aggregates

Sāvatthiyaṁ viharati. At Sāvatthī.

ā€œTaṁ kiṁ maƱƱasi, rāhula, ā€œWhat do you think, Rāhula?

rÅ«paṁ niccaṁ vā aniccaṁ vāā€ti? Is form permanent or impermanent?ā€

viññāṇaṁ niccaṁ vā aniccaṁ vāā€ti? Is consciousness permanent or impermanent?ā€

ā€œAniccaṁ, bhanteā€ … ā€œImpermanent, sir.ā€ …

ā€œevaṁ passaṁ, rāhula, sutavā ariyasāvako rÅ«pasmimpi nibbindati …pe… vedanāyapi nibbindati … saƱƱāyapi nibbindati … saį¹…khāresupi nibbindati … viññāṇasmimpi nibbindati; ā€œSeeing this, a learned noble disciple grows disillusioned with form, feeling, perception, choices, and consciousness.

nibbindaṁ virajjati; virāgā vimuccati; vimuttasmiṁ vimuttamiti ñāṇaṁ hoti. Being disillusioned, desire fades away. When desire fades away they’re freed. When they’re freed, they know they’re freed.

ā€˜Khīṇā jāti, vusitaṁ brahmacariyaṁ, kataṁ karaṇīyaṁ, nāparaṁ itthattāyā’ti pajānātÄ«ā€ti. They understand: ā€˜Rebirth is ended, the spiritual journey has been completed, what had to be done has been done, there is nothing further for this place.ā€™ā€

Dasamaṁ.
