Dutiyasukkāsutta With the Nun Sukkā (2nd) With the Nun Sukkā (2nd)

Ekaṁ samayaṁ bhagavā rājagahe viharati veįø·uvane kalandakanivāpe. At one time the Buddha was staying near Rājagaha, in the Bamboo Grove, the squirrels’ feeding ground. On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Rajagaha in the Bamboo Grove, the Squirrel Sanctuary.

Tena kho pana samayena aññataro upāsako sukkāya bhikkhuniyā bhojanaṁ adāsi. Now at that time a certain lay follower gave food to the nun Sukkā. Now on that occasion a certain lay follower gave food to the bhikkhuni Sukka.

Atha kho sukkāya bhikkhuniyā abhippasanno yakkho rājagahe rathikāya rathikaṁ siį¹…ghāṭakena siį¹…ghāṭakaṁ upasaį¹…kamitvā tāyaṁ velāyaṁ imaṁ gāthaṁ abhāsi: Then a native spirit was so devoted to Sukkā that he went from street to street and from square to square, and on that occasion recited these verses: Then a yakkha who had full confidence in the bhikkhuni Sukka, going from street to street and from square to square in Rajagaha, on that occasion recited this verse:

ā€œPuƱƱaṁ vata pasavi bahuṁ, ā€œO! He has made so much merit! He has engendered much merit—

Sappañño vatāyaṁ upāsako; That lay follower is so very wise. Wise indeed is this lay follower,

Yo sukkāya adāsi bhojanaṁ, He just gave food to Sukkā, Who just gave food to Sukka,

Sabbaganthehi vippamuttiyÄā€ti. who is released from all ties.ā€ One released from all the knots.
