Nandivisālasutta With Nandivisāla NandivisaĢ„la

Ekamantaṁ į¹­hito kho nandivisālo devaputto bhagavantaṁ gāthāya ajjhabhāsi: Standing to one side, the godling Nandivisāla addressed the Buddha in verse: Standing to one side, the young deva NandivisaĢ„la addressed the Blessed One in verse:

ā€œCatucakkaṁ navadvāraṁ, ā€œFour are its wheels, and nine its doors; ā€œHaving four wheels and nine doors,

puṇṇaṁ lobhena saṁyutaṁ; it’s stuffed full, bound with greed, Filled up and bound with greed,

Paį¹…kajātaṁ mahāvÄ«ra, and born from a bog. Born from a bog, O great hero!

kathaṁ yātrā bhavissatÄ«ā€ti. Great hero, how will I keep going?ā€ How does one escape from it?ā€

ā€œChetvā naddhiṁ varattaƱca, ā€œHaving cut the strap and harness— ā€œHaving cut the thong and the strap,

icchālobhaƱca pāpakaṁ; wicked desire and greed—Having cut off evil desire and greed,

SamÅ«laṁ taṇhamabbuyha, and having plucked out craving, root and all: Having drawn out craving with its root:

evaṁ yātrā bhavissatÄ«ā€ti. that’s how you will keep going.ā€ Thus one escapes from it. ā€
