Araṇasutta Free of Strife Without Conflict

ā€œKesÅ«dha araṇā loke, ā€œWho in the world is free of strife? ā€œWho here in the world are placid?

kesaṁ vusitaṁ na nassati; Whose life is not wasted? Whose mode of life is not squandered?

Kedha icchaṁ parijānanti, Who here completely understands desire? Who here fully understand desire?

kesaṁ bhojissiyaṁ sadā. Who always lives as their own master? Who enjoy perpetual freedom?

Kiṁsu mātā pitā bhātā, To whom do mother, father, and brothers ā€œWhom do parents and brothers worship

vandanti naṁ patiį¹­į¹­hitaṁ; bow when they’re established? When he stands firmly established?

Kiṁsu idha jātihīnaṁ, Who here, though low born, Who is the one of humble birth

abhivādenti khattiyÄā€ti. is bowed to even by aristocrats?ā€ That even khattiyas here salute?ā€

ā€œSamaṇīdha araṇā loke, ā€œAscetics are free of strife in the world. ā€œAscetics are placid in the world;

Samaṇānaṁ vusitaṁ na nassati; The life of ascetics is not wasted. The ascetic life is not squandered;

Samaṇā icchaṁ parijānanti, Ascetics completely understand desire. Ascetics fully understand desire;

Samaṇānaṁ bhojissiyaṁ sadā. Ascetics always live as their own master. They enjoy perpetual freedom.

Samaṇaṁ mātā pitā bhātā, Mother, father, and brothers ā€œParents and brothers worship an ascetic

vandanti naṁ patiį¹­į¹­hitaṁ; bow to ascetics when they’re established. hen he stands firmly established.

Samaṇīdha jātihÄ«naṁ, Even though an ascetic is low born, Though an ascetic be of humble birth

abhivādenti khattiyÄā€ti. they’re bowed to even by aristocrats.ā€ Even khattiyas here salute him.ā€

Chetvāvaggo aṭṭhamo.

Tassuddānaṁ

Chetvā rathaƱca cittaƱca,

vuṭṭhi bhītā najīrati;

Issaraṁ kāmaṁ pātheyyaṁ,

pajjoto araṇena cāti.
