Uḍḍitasutta Ensnared Ensnared
“Kenassu uḍḍito loko, “By what is the world ensnared? “By what is the world ensnared?
kenassu parivārito; By what is it surrounded? By what is it enveloped?
Kenassu pihito loko, By what is the world fastened shut? By what is the world shut in?
kismiṁ loko patiṭṭhito”ti. On what is the world grounded?” On what is the world established?”
“Taṇhāya uḍḍito loko, “Craving has ensnared the world. “The world is ensnared by craving;
jarāya parivārito; It’s surrounded by old age. It is enveloped by old age;
Maccunā pihito loko, The world is fastened shut by mortality. The world is shut in by death;
dukkhe loko patiṭṭhito”ti. The world is grounded on suffering.” The world is established on suffering. ”
