Catucakkasutta Four Wheels Four Wheels

“Catucakkaṁ navadvāraṁ, “Four are its wheels, and nine its doors; “Having four wheels and nine doors,

puṇṇaṁ lobhena saṁyutaṁ; it’s stuffed full, bound with greed, Filled up and bound with greed,

Paṅkajātaṁ mahāvīra, and born from a bog. Born from a bog, O great hero!

kathaṁ yātrā bhavissatī”ti. Great hero, how will I keep going?” How does one escape from it?”

“Chetvā naddhiṁ varattañca, “Having cut the strap and harness—“Having cut the thong and the strap,

icchā lobhañca pāpakaṁ; the wicked desire and greed—Having cut off evil desire and greed,

Samūlaṁ taṇhamabbuyha, and having plucked out craving, root and all: Having drawn out craving with its root:

evaṁ yātrā bhavissatī”ti. that’s how you will keep going.” Thus one escapes from it. ”
