Kuṭikāsutta Little Hut A Little Hut

“Kacci te kuṭikā natthi, “Don’t you have a little hut? “Don’t you have a little hut?

kacci natthi kulāvakā; Don’t you have a little nest? Don’t you have a little nest?

Kacci santānakā natthi, Don’t you have any networks? Don’t you have any lines extended?

kacci muttosi bandhanā”ti. Aren’t you free of shackles?” Are you free from bondage?”

“Taggha me kuṭikā natthi, “Indeed I have no little hut. “Surely I have no little hut,

taggha natthi kulāvakā; Indeed I have no little nest. Surely I have no little nest,

Taggha santānakā natthi, Indeed I have no networks. Surely I have no lines extended,

taggha muttomhi bandhanā”ti. Indeed I’m free from shackles.” Surely I’m free from bondage. ”

“Kintāhaṁ kuṭikaṁ brūmi, “What do you think I call your little hut? “What do you think I call a little hut?

kiṁ te brūmi kulāvakaṁ; What do I call your little nest? What do you think I call a little nest?

Kiṁ te santānakaṁ brūmi, What do I call your network? What do you think I call lines extended?

kintāhaṁ brūmi bandhanan”ti. And what do I call your shackle?” What do you think I call bondage?”

“Mātaraṁ kuṭikaṁ brūsi, “You call mother a little hut; “It’s a mother that you call a little hut,

bhariyaṁ brūsi kulāvakaṁ; and wife a little nest. A wife that you call a little nest,

Putte santānake brūsi, You call children a network, Sons that you call lines extended,

taṇhaṁ me brūsi bandhanan”ti. and you call my craving a shackle.” Craving that you tell me is bondage. ”

“Sāhu te kuṭikā natthi, “It’s good you have no little hut! “It’s good that you have no little hut,

sāhu natthi kulāvakā; It’s good you have no little nest! Good that you have no little nest,

Sāhu santānakā natthi, It’s good you have no networks! Good that you have no lines extended,

sāhu muttosi bandhanā”ti. And good that you’re free from shackles.” Good that you are free from bondage. ”
