Ekamantaį¹ į¹hitÄ kho sÄ devatÄ bhagavato santike imaį¹ gÄthaį¹ abhÄsi: Standing to one side, that deity recited this verse in the Buddhaās presence: Standing to one side, that devatÄ recited this verse in the presence of the Blessed One:
āKati jÄgarataį¹ suttÄ, āHow many sleep among the waking? āHow many are asleep when others are awake?
kati suttesu jÄgarÄ; How many wake among the sleeping? How many are awake when others sleep?
Katibhi rajamÄdeti, By how many do you gather dust? By how many does one gather dust?
katibhi parisujjhatÄ«āti. By how many are you cleansed?ā By how many is one purified?ā
āPaƱca jÄgarataį¹ suttÄ, āFive sleep among the waking. āFive are asleep when others are awake;
paƱca suttesu jÄgarÄ; Five wake among the sleeping. Five are awake when others sleep.
PaƱcabhi rajamÄdeti, By five you gather dust. By five things one gathers dust,
