ā€œSatimatÄ« cakkhumatÄ«, ā€œI am mindful and of clear sight, ā€œA nun with faculties developed,

bhikkhunī bhāvitindriyā; a bhikkhunī with well-developed spiritual powers. mindful, seeing clearly,

Paṭivijjhi padaṁ santaṁ, I mastered the path of peace I penetrated that peaceful state,

akāpurisasevitaį¹ā€. that is not practiced by vile people.ā€ which reprobates do not cultivate.ā€

ā€œKiṁ nu jātiṁ na rocesi, ā€œWhy don’t you appreciate being born? ā€œWhy don’t you approve of rebirth?

jāto kāmāni bhuƱjati; When one is born, one enjoys sensual pleasures. When you’re born, you get to enjoy sensual pleasures.

BhuƱjāhi kāmaratiyo, Enjoy the delights of sensual pleasures, Enjoy erotic delights;

māhu pacchānutāpinÄ«ā€. do not regret it later.ā€ don’t regret it later.ā€

ā€œJātassa maraṇaṁ hoti, ā€œFrom birth there is death, ā€œDeath comes to those who are born;

hatthapādāna chedanaṁ; the severing of hands and feet, and when born they fall into suffering:

Vadhabandhapariklesaṁ, flogging, imprisonment, and hardship; the chopping off of hands and feet,

jāto dukkhaṁ nigacchati. when one is born, one undergoes suffering. killing, caging, misery.

Atthi sakyakule jāto, But the one who is born in the Sakyan clan, But there is one born in the Sakyan clan,

sambuddho aparājito; Self-Enlightened and Unconquered, an awakened champion.

So me dhammamadesesi, taught me the Dhamma He taught me the Dhamma

jātiyā samatikkamaṁ. that transcends birth; for passing beyond rebirth:

Dukkhaṁ dukkhasamuppādaṁ, Suffering, the origin of suffering, suffering, suffering’s origin,

dukkhassa ca atikkamaṁ; the overcoming of suffering, suffering’s transcendence,

Ariyaṁ caį¹­į¹­haį¹…gikaṁ maggaṁ, and the Noble Eightfold Path and the noble eightfold path

dukkhūpasamagāminaṁ. leading to the appeasement of suffering. that leads to the stilling of suffering.

Tassāhaṁ vacanaṁ sutvā, After I heard his words, After hearing his words,

vihariṁ sāsane ratā; I dwelled devoted to the teaching. I happily did his bidding.

Tisso vijjā anuppattā, I obtained the three knowledges, I’ve attained the three knowledges

kataṁ buddhassa sāsanaṁ. and completed the teaching of the Buddha. and fulfilled the Buddha’s instructions.

Sabbattha vihatā nandī, In this way all fixation is annihilated, Relishing is destroyed in every respect,

tamokhandho padālito; the mass of darkness destroyed. and the mass of darkness is shattered.

Evaṁ jānāhi pāpima, Thus be aware, Wicked One, So know this, Wicked One:

nihato tvamasi antakaā€. Death—you are destroyed!ā€ you’re beaten, terminator!ā€
