AbhayātherÄ«gāthā Verses of the Elder Abhaya’s Mother Abhayā

ā€œAbhaye bhiduro kāyo, ā€œAbhayā, this body is transient: Abhayā, the body is fragile,

yattha satā puthujjanā; this is what worldly beings should attend to. yet ordinary people are attached to it.

Nikkhipissāmimaṁ dehaṁ, I will cast aside this body I’ll lay down the body,

sampajānā satīmatī. with mindfulness and clear comprehension. aware and mindful.

Bahūhi dukkhadhammehi, Amidst so much suffering, Though subject to so many painful things,

appamādaratāya me; I devoted myself to heedfulness. I have, through my love of diligence,

Taṇhakkhayo anuppatto, I have obtained the destruction of craving, reached the ending of craving,

kataṁ buddhassa sāsananā€ti. and completed the teaching of the Buddha.ā€ and fulfilled the Buddha’s instructions.
