Mogharājamāṇavapucchā The Questions of Mogharāja

ā€œDvāhaṁ sakkaṁ apucchissaṁ, ā€œTwice I have asked the Sakyan,ā€

(iccāyasmā mogharājā) said Venerable Mogharāja,

Na me byākāsi cakkhumā; ā€œbut you haven’t answered me, O Clear-eyed One.

YāvatatiyaƱca devīsi, I have heard that the divine seer

Byākarotīti me sutaṁ. answers when questioned a third time.

Ayaṁ loko paro loko, Regarding this world, the other world,

brahmaloko sadevako; and the realm of divinity with its gods,

Diį¹­į¹­hiṁ te nābhijānāti, I’m not familiar with the view

gotamassa yasassino. of the renowned Gotama.

Evaṁ abhikkantadassāviṁ, So I have come seeking with a question

atthi pañhena āgamaṁ; for the one of excellent vision.

Kathaṁ lokaṁ avekkhantaṁ, How to look upon the world

maccurājā na passatiā€. so the King of Death won’t see you?ā€

ā€œSuƱƱato lokaṁ avekkhassu, ā€œLook upon the world as empty,

Mogharāja sadā sato; Mogharāja, ever mindful.

Attānudiṭṭhiṁ ūhacca, Having uprooted the view of self,

Evaṁ maccutaro siyā; you may thus cross over death.

Evaṁ lokaṁ avekkhantaṁ, That’s how to look upon the world

Maccurājā na passatÄ«ā€ti. so the King of Death won’t see you.ā€

Mogharājamāṇavapucchā pannarasamā.
