Dutiyavagga Chapter Two

Moneyyasutta Sagacity

Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ: This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

ā€œTīṇimāni, bhikkhave, moneyyāni. ā€œMendicants, there are these three kinds of sagacity.

Katamāni tīṇi? What three?

Kāyamoneyyaṁ, vacÄ«moneyyaṁ, manomoneyyaṁ—Sagacity of body, speech, and mind.

imāni kho, bhikkhave, tīṇi moneyyānÄ«ā€ti. These are the three kinds of sagacity.ā€

Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca. The Buddha spoke this matter.

Tatthetaṁ iti vuccati: On this it is said:

ā€œKāyamuniṁ vacÄ«muniṁ, ā€œA sage in body, a sage in speech,

manomunimanāsavaṁ; a sage undefiled in mind;

Muniṁ moneyyasampannaṁ, a sage, blessed with sagacity,

āhu ninhātapāpakanā€ti. has washed off all bad things, they say.ā€

Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti. This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.

Aṭṭhamaṁ.
