Duccaritasutta Bad Conduct

Vuttañhetaṁ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaṁ: This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

ā€œTīṇimāni, bhikkhave, duccaritāni. ā€œMendicants, there are these three kinds of bad conduct.

Katamāni tīṇi? What three?

Kāyaduccaritaṁ, vacÄ«duccaritaṁ, manoduccaritaṁ—Bad conduct by way of body, speech, and mind.

imāni kho, bhikkhave, tīṇi duccaritānÄ«ā€ti. These are the three kinds of bad conduct.ā€

Etamatthaṁ bhagavā avoca. The Buddha spoke this matter.

Tatthetaṁ iti vuccati: On this it is said:

ā€œKāyaduccaritaṁ katvā, ā€œHaving done bad things

vacīduccaritāni ca; by way of body,

Manoduccaritaṁ katvā, speech, and mind,

yañcaññaṁ dosasaṁhitaṁ. and whatever else is corrupt;

Akatvā kusalaṁ kammaṁ, not having done good deeds,

katvānākusalaṁ bahuṁ; and having done many bad,

Kāyassa bhedā duppaƱƱo, when their body breaks up, that witless person

nirayaṁ sopapajjatÄ«ā€ti. is reborn in hell.ā€

Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti. This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.

Pañcamaṁ.
