VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatÄ vuttamarahatÄti me sutaį¹: This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
āDvÄ«hi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannÄgato puggalo yathÄbhataį¹ nikkhitto evaį¹ sagge. āMendicants, a person with two qualities is raised up to heaven.
Katamehi dvīhi? What two?
Bhaddakena ca sÄ«lena, bhaddikÄya ca diį¹į¹hiyÄ. Excellent conduct and excellent view.
Imehi kho, bhikkhave, dvÄ«hi dhammehi samannÄgato puggalo yathÄbhataį¹ nikkhitto evaį¹ saggeāti. A person who has these two qualities is raised up to heaven.ā
Etamatthaį¹ bhagavÄ avoca. The Buddha spoke this matter.
Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati: On this it is said:
āBhaddakena ca sÄ«lena, āIf a person possesses
bhaddikÄya ca diį¹į¹hiyÄ; these two qualitiesā
Etehi dvīhi dhammehi, excellent conduct
yo samannÄgato naro; and excellent viewsā
KÄyassa bhedÄ sappaƱƱo, when their body breaks up, that wise person
saggaį¹ so upapajjatÄ«āti. is reborn in heaven.ā
Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatÄ, iti me sutanti. This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
