VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatÄ vuttamarahatÄti me sutaį¹: This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
āDvÄ«hi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannÄgato puggalo yathÄbhataį¹ nikkhitto evaį¹ niraye. āMendicants, a person with two qualities is cast down to hell.
Katamehi dvīhi? What two?
PÄpakena ca sÄ«lena, pÄpikÄya ca diį¹į¹hiyÄ. Bad conduct and bad view.
Imehi kho, bhikkhave, dvÄ«hi dhammehi samannÄgato puggalo yathÄbhataį¹ nikkhitto evaį¹ nirayeāti. A person who has these two qualities is cast down to hell.ā
Etamatthaį¹ bhagavÄ avoca. The Buddha spoke this matter.
Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati: On this it is said:
āPÄpakena ca sÄ«lena, āIf a person possesses
pÄpikÄya ca diį¹į¹hiyÄ; these two qualitiesā
Etehi dvīhi dhammehi, bad conduct
yo samannÄgato naro; and bad viewsā
KÄyassa bhedÄ duppaƱƱo, when their body breaks up, that witless person
nirayaį¹ sopapajjatÄ«āti. is reborn in hell.ā
Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatÄ, iti me sutanti. This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
