VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatÄ vuttamarahatÄti me sutaį¹: This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
āSekhassa, bhikkhave, bhikkhuno appattamÄnasassa anuttaraį¹ yogakkhemaį¹ patthayamÄnassa viharato ajjhattikaį¹ aį¹
ganti karitvÄ nÄƱƱaį¹ ekaį¹
gampi samanupassÄmi yaį¹ evaį¹ bahÅ«pakÄraį¹ yathayidaį¹, bhikkhave, yoniso manasikÄro. āTaking into account interior factors, mendicants, I do not see a single one that is so very helpful as rational application of mind for a trainee mendicant who hasnāt achieved their heartās desire, but lives aspiring to the supreme sanctuary from the yoke.
Yoniso, bhikkhave, bhikkhu manasi karonto akusalaį¹ pajahati, kusalaį¹ bhÄvetÄ«āti. A mendicant rationally applying the mind gives up the unskillful and develops the skillful.ā
Etamatthaį¹ bhagavÄ avoca. The Buddha spoke this matter.
Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati: On this it is said:
āYonisomanasikÄro, āThere is nothing so helpful
dhammo sekhassa bhikkhuno; for a trainee mendicant
NatthaƱƱo evaį¹ bahukÄro, aspiring for the ultimate goal
uttamatthassa pattiyÄ; as rational application of mind.
Yoniso padahaį¹ bhikkhu, Striving rationally, a mendicant
khayaį¹ dukkhassa pÄpuį¹eāti. attains the end of suffering.ā
Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatÄ, iti me sutanti. This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
