DÅ«teyyasutta Going on a Mission
āAį¹į¹hahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannÄgato bhikkhu dÅ«teyyaį¹ gantumarahati. āMendicants, a mendicant with eight qualities is worthy of going on a mission.
Katamehi aį¹į¹hahi? What eight?
Idha, bhikkhave, bhikkhu sotÄ ca hoti, sÄvetÄ ca, uggahetÄ ca, dhÄretÄ ca, viƱƱÄtÄ ca, viƱƱÄpetÄ ca, kusalo ca sahitÄsahitassa, no ca kalahakÄrakoāItās a mendicant who learns and educates others. They memorize and remember. They understand and help others understand. Theyāre skilled at knowing whatās on topic and what isnāt. And they donāt cause quarrels.
imehi kho, bhikkhave, aį¹į¹hahi dhammehi samannÄgato bhikkhu dÅ«teyyaį¹ gantumarahati. A mendicant with these eight qualities is worthy of going on a mission.
Aį¹į¹hahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannÄgato sÄriputto dÅ«teyyaį¹ gantumarahati. Having eight qualities SÄriputta is worthy of going on a mission.

Idha, bhikkhave, sÄriputto sotÄ ca hoti, sÄvetÄ ca, uggahetÄ ca, dhÄretÄ ca, viƱƱÄtÄ ca, viƱƱÄpetÄ ca, kusalo ca sahitÄsahitassa, no ca kalahakÄrako. He learns and educates others. He memorizes and remembers. He understands and helps others understand. Heās skilled at knowing whatās on topic and what isnāt. And he doesnāt cause quarrels.
Imehi kho, bhikkhave, aį¹į¹hahi dhammehi samannÄgato sÄriputto dÅ«teyyaį¹ gantumarahatÄ«ti. Having these eight qualities SÄriputta is worthy of going on a mission.
Yo ve na byathati patvÄ, They donāt tremble when arriving
parisaį¹ uggavÄdiniį¹; at an assembly of fierce debaters.
Na ca hÄpeti vacanaį¹, They donāt miss out any words,
na ca chÄdeti sÄsanaį¹. or conceal the instructions.
AsandiddhaƱca bhaį¹ati, Their words arenāt poisoned,
Pucchito na ca kuppati; and they donāt tremble when questioned.
Sa ve tÄdisako bhikkhu, Such a mendicant
DÅ«teyyaį¹ gantumarahatÄ«āti. is worthy of going on a mission.ā
