BahÅ«pakÄrasutta Very Helpful
āPaƱcahi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannÄgato ÄvÄsiko bhikkhu ÄvÄsassa bahÅ«pakÄro hoti. āMendicants, a resident mendicant with five qualities is very helpful to the monastery.
Katamehi paƱcahi? What five?
SÄ«lavÄ hoti ā¦peā¦ samÄdÄya sikkhati sikkhÄpadesu; Theyāre ethical, restrained in the monastic code, conducting themselves well and resorting for alms in suitable places. Seeing danger in the slightest fault, they keep the rules theyāve undertaken.
bahussuto hoti ā¦peā¦ diį¹į¹hiyÄ suppaį¹ividdhÄ; Theyāre very learned, remembering and keeping what theyāve learned. These teachings are good in the beginning, good in the middle, and good in the end, meaningful and well-phrased, describing a spiritual practice thatās totally full and pure. They are very learned in such teachings, remembering them, reciting them, mentally scrutinizing them, and comprehending them theoretically.

gha is arriving with mendicants from abroad, they go to the lay people and announce:
āmahÄ kho, Ävuso, bhikkhusaį¹
gho abhikkanto nÄnÄverajjakÄ bhikkhÅ«, karotha puƱƱÄni, samayo puƱƱÄni kÄtunāti; āA large mendicant Saį¹
gha is arriving with mendicants from abroad. Make merit! Now is the time to make merit!ā
catunnaį¹ jhÄnÄnaį¹ ÄbhicetasikÄnaį¹ diį¹į¹hadhammasukhavihÄrÄnaį¹ nikÄmalÄbhÄ« hoti akicchalÄbhÄ« akasiralÄbhÄ«. They get the four absorptionsāblissful meditations in this life that belong to the higher mindāwhen they want, without trouble or difficulty.
Imehi kho, bhikkhave, paƱcahi dhammehi samannÄgato ÄvÄsiko bhikkhu ÄvÄsassa bahÅ«pakÄro hotÄ«āti. A resident mendicant with these five qualities is very helpful to the monastery.ā
