TatiyapÄpadhammasutta Bad Character (3rd)
āPÄpadhammaƱca vo, bhikkhave, desessÄmi, pÄpadhammena pÄpadhammataraƱca; āMendicants, I will teach you bad character and worse character,
kalyÄį¹adhammaƱca, kalyÄį¹adhammena kalyÄį¹adhammataraƱca. Taį¹ suį¹Ätha ā¦peā¦. good character and better character.
āKatamo ca, bhikkhave, pÄpadhammo? And who has bad character?
Idha, bhikkhave, ekacco pÄį¹ÄtipÄtÄ« hoti ā¦peā¦ micchÄdiį¹į¹hiko hoti. Itās someone who kills living creatures, steals, and commits sexual misconduct. They use speech thatās false, divisive, harsh, or nonsensical. And theyāre covetous, malicious, with wrong view.
Ayaį¹ vuccati, bhikkhave, pÄpadhammo. This is called bad character.
Katamo ca, bhikkhave, pÄpadhammena pÄpadhammataro? And who has worse character?
Idha bhikkhave, ekacco attanÄ ca pÄį¹ÄtipÄtÄ« hoti, paraƱca pÄį¹ÄtipÄte samÄdapeti ā¦peā¦ attanÄ ca micchÄdiį¹į¹hiko hoti, paraƱca micchÄdiį¹į¹hiyÄ samÄdapeti. Itās someone who kills living creatures, steals, and commits sexual misconduct. They use speech thatās false, divisive, harsh, or nonsensical. Theyāre covetous, malicious, with wrong view. And they encourage others to do these things.
