Adhammikasutta Unprincipled
āYasmiį¹, bhikkhave, samaye rÄjÄno adhammikÄ honti, rÄjÄyuttÄpi tasmiį¹ samaye adhammikÄ honti. āAt a time when kings are unprincipled, royal officials become unprincipled.
RÄjÄyuttesu adhammikesu brÄhmaį¹agahapatikÄpi tasmiį¹ samaye adhammikÄ honti. When royal officials are unprincipled, brahmins and householders become unprincipled.
BrÄhmaį¹agahapatikesu adhammikesu negamajÄnapadÄpi tasmiį¹ samaye adhammikÄ honti. When brahmins and householders are unprincipled, the people of town and country become unprincipled.
NegamajÄnapadesu adhammikesu visamaį¹ candimasÅ«riyÄ parivattanti. When the people of town and country are unprincipled, the courses of the moon and sun become erratic.

SamapÄkÄni, bhikkhave, sassÄni manussÄ paribhuƱjantÄ dÄ«ghÄyukÄ ca honti vaį¹į¹avanto ca balavanto ca appÄbÄdhÄ cÄti. When people eat crops that have ripened well, they become long-lived, beautiful, strong, and healthy.
GunnaƱce taramÄnÄnaį¹, When cattle ford a river,
jimhaį¹ gacchati puį¹
gavo; if the bull goes off course,
SabbÄ tÄ jimhaį¹ gacchanti, they all go off course,
nette jimhaį¹ gate sati. because their leader is off course.
Evamevaį¹ manussesu, So it is for humans:
yo hoti seį¹į¹hasammato; when the one deemed chief
So ce adhammaį¹ carati, behaves badly,
pageva itarÄ pajÄ; what do you expect the rest to do?
Sabbaį¹ raį¹į¹haį¹ dukkhaį¹ seti, The whole country sleeps badly,
rÄjÄ ce hoti adhammiko. when the king is unprincipled.

ujuį¹ gacchati puį¹
gavo; if the bull goes straight,
SabbÄ tÄ ujuį¹ gacchanti, they all go straight,
nette ujuį¹ gate sati. because their leader is straight.
Evamevaį¹ manussesu, So it is for humans:
yo hoti seį¹į¹hasammato; when the one deemed chief
So sace dhammaį¹ carati, does the right thing,
pageva itarÄ pajÄ; what do you expect the rest to do?
Sabbaį¹ raį¹į¹haį¹ sukhaį¹ seti, The whole country sleeps at ease,
rÄjÄ ce hoti dhammikoāti. when the king is just.ā
