ā€œā€˜sandiį¹į¹hikaṁ nibbānaṁ sandiį¹į¹hikaṁ nibbānan’ti, bho gotama, vuccati. ā€œWorthy Gotama, they say that ā€˜extinguishment is apparent in the present life’.

Kittāvatā nu kho, bho gotama, sandiį¹į¹hikaṁ nibbānaṁ hoti akālikaṁ ehipassikaṁ opaneyyikaṁ paccattaṁ veditabbaṁ viññūhÄ«ā€ti? In what way is extinguishment apparent in the present life, immediately effective, inviting inspection, relevant, so that sensible people can know it for themselves?ā€

Ratto kho, brāhmaṇa, rāgena abhibhÅ«to pariyādinnacitto attabyābādhāyapi ceteti, parabyābādhāyapi ceteti, ubhayabyābādhāyapi ceteti, cetasikampi dukkhaṁ domanassaṁ paį¹isaṁvedeti. ā€œA greedy person, overcome by greed, intends to hurt themselves, hurt others, and hurt both. They experience mental pain and sadness.

Evampi kho, brāhmaṇa, sandiį¹į¹hikaṁ nibbānaṁ hoti. This is how extinguishment is apparent in the present life.

A deluded person, overcome by delusion, intends to hurt themselves, hurt others, and hurt both. They experience mental pain and sadness.

When delusion has been given up, they don’t intend to hurt themselves, hurt others, and hurt both. They don’t experience mental pain and sadness.

Evampi kho, brāhmaṇa, sandiį¹į¹hikaṁ nibbānaṁ hoti. This, too, is how extinguishment is apparent in the present life.

Yato kho ayaṁ, brāhmaṇa, anavasesaṁ rāgakkhayaṁ paį¹isaṁvedeti, anavasesaṁ dosakkhayaṁ paį¹isaṁvedeti, anavasesaṁ mohakkhayaṁ paį¹isaṁvedeti; When you experience the ending of greed, hate, and delusion without anything left over,

evaṁ kho, brāhmaṇa, sandiį¹į¹hikaṁ nibbānaṁ hoti akālikaṁ ehipassikaṁ opaneyyikaṁ paccattaṁ veditabbaṁ viññūhÄ«ā€ti. that’s how extinguishment is apparent in the present life, immediately effective, inviting inspection, relevant, so that sensible people can know it for themselves.ā€
